here is the first of the graphics for the new line. we have temporarily suspended production on all hardwoods until the release of the new decks. these will replace the hardwoods and add flex, performance, and durability. the ride is amazing. release date will come shortly

DC Shoe collaboration

DC has teamed up with the New York luxury boutique hotel, Hotel on Rivinton, again for a limited edition of the DC LIFE Admiral Sport. This customized edition was produced exclusively for the hotel bell staff. This is the fourth time DC has provided the staff with shoes from the DC LIFE Collection (Sector 7, Dress Sneaker, Admiral and now the Admiral Sport). This time around DC had asked us to do our part on the shoes and laser etch the hotel name on the outside of the soles. So, we did exactly that and they came out fresh, so check em out. Working with DC’s Global product line manager Hommy Diaz was killer and we can't wait for future collaborations with the DC family.

The Admiral Sport is part of the Spring 2010 DC LIFE Collection and will be available beginning of January 2010 at select DC LIFE retailers and the DC Online Store at http://www.dcshoes.com So def scope out the new DC line!

“My vision and effort was to take the old DC and fuse it with the new DC. This is an on going effort you can expect from me in future seasons. The old DC is represented by the original NAVY and WHITE DC logo suede flag. For over 5 years now the DC Navy/White has been drop in exchange for Black/White on all branding and packaging. I took it a step further or should I say back with the bold lettering of DCSHOECOUSA that was on a classic skate shoe the LYNX introduced in 1998. Which had a decade worth of success for the brand. I felt this was the best way to take a new DC style the ADMIRAL SPORT and tell a story of heritage and evolution.”

Summer Sessions

Last Monday, also known to the dreaded longboarders of Rhode Island the last day of summer, there was a day of boarding throughout Providence, and a distinct smell of stoke for longboarding in the air. The day that started off as a couple of guys riding soon turned into a huge, take-over-the-streets style session.

A couple of riders and myself were crusing around the city, taking some photos, hitting up a decent hill, and playing with a little five stair set. Soon however, another group of longboarders came racing past us, and slid to a stop. They seemed as stoked about finding other boarders in the city as we did and we decided to join up groups. The guys were super nice, and spread good vibes.

After playing around a little more at the hill, we decided to travel the city in search of better hills and more boarders. We bombed hills, almost got hit by cars, got kicked out of places, got curious spectators and people wanting to try, found some nicely paved banks, and finally passed through a downtown area for lunch.

While we were heading out, some people stopped their car and asked us where we were heading. We all discussed a hill, and that is where the day really began. Soon, the people we talked to, along with a bunch of his friends, all met us on this hill. Now there was a solid pack of fifteen boarders (at least) at this session.

Sadly, this is where the camera went away (no one wanted to take pictures, everyone just wanted to board) but there was an amazing vibe at the session. People swapped boards for some runs, changed gloves, switched out wheels, and everyone ended up with everything they came with. Not even cops came to brake it up.

Overall there were boarders from fourteen to fourty five, boarders of all different styles, and smiles on everyones faces. The day was pumped the true vibe of longboarding, and below are some of the photos.

This past weekend, we re-organized our showroom before the Saturday's "Ray at Night" event to showcase what we've been recently designing and developing here at the shop. It was pretty hectic at first of how we wanted to display everything especially under this massive hot California weather! But finally got the room organized to our liking =]

As you enter, the right side of the showroom features all of the retail aspect such as cool new stickers, clothing & skateboards. The left side showcases all the work we've done so far with our clients that are displayed on our awesome recycled cardboard shelves that we built here just a day before the showing! Ohh yes the skills haha. And the center wall features an artist that we found super creative that will amaze you. So here are some cool 360 degree pictures of the showroom, enjoy!

Michael Legno created each hand made piece that was inspired by his mother to lift her spirits up from being diagnosed with cancer. He got this great idea and built metal flowers that will last forever. Each piece starts from the conception of flower on paper to metal, and numbered and signed to show true authenticity. He recently relocated from New York to Los Angeles where he's been crafting and selling these one of kind metal sculptures for any type of occasions from birthdays, anniversaries and to someone just saying thank you. He is def a true artist with a passion!

RAD Girls

Collaborating with the RAD Girls; Ramona Cash, Munchie & Darling Clementine was an awesome experience! As we were finishing up the last touches of the boards, like putting the super hot pink wheels and trucks together, we knew they would've loved what we've done for them. We finally got to give them their very own customized board incorporating each of their unique personality and style. And the RAD Girls were freakin stoked about the overall designs created here at Soul Ryde. They were super cool and interested in the process while chatting it up with them about the overall concept. We were pleased to have worked with these girls and cannot wait to work them again! Peep some of the pics posted!

Ohh by the way, The RAD Girls is a female version of MTV's Jackass, doing stunts & pranks that involve nudity, body excretions & debauchery. Pretty crazy!

The Find

After adding my last 46” longboard to my growing collection, I searched high and low to find something truly unique. While thumbing through a skateboarding magazine, I came across a page featuring these magnificently rustic looking boards that literally jumped right off the page. The company was Soul Ryde, specializing in beautiful, laser-engraved hardwood decks. At that moment I knew without a shadow of a doubt, I needed a Soul Ryde board.

The Design

At the Soul Ryde website I designed my dream board. I chose to have a Jatoba wood (a very hard wood common to Central and South America and the Caribbean commonly used in furniture) deck with Purple Heart stringers- a sweet fusion.

I am the guitarist in a band formed and lead by my mother, called Mammoth Lamb. So, for the graphic of the board, we wanted to create something metaphoric of our mission in music. Being an amazing artist as well, my mother designed a killer graphic, tricked out with ancient/future symbols and signs, ultimately creating a gorgeous image for the underside of the deck.

From Conception to Reception

The ordering process went quite smoothly, and both Michael Salmon (the founder and owner of Soul Ryde) and his brother Brian were very helpful in assisting my selections of the best components for the board. The order was in, and all that remained for me was to wait for the work to be done. The closer I came to actually seeing and feeling the board in my hands, the more my excitement grew and the harder it became to wait. Michael and Brian showed lots of patience during this time as I called with many questions and inquiries regarding the progression of build. Soon enough, after a few weeks, the board was finally built and ready to ship. When I received the package, the board far superseded all expectations and proved to be well worth the wait!

The Look

The deck is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! The grip tape sparkles like the glittering cosmic expanse, juxtaposed against the subtle Purple heart stringers and cradled by that rich, reddish, almost dark honey brown Jatoba wood. I got Original S8 trucks and Retro ZigZag 70mm/78a wheels. The trucks are huge- strong and bold. The blood-red ZigZags perfectly complement the Purple heart wood. I loved the graphic we sent to the guys at Soul Ryde for the board. However, it took on an entire new life laser etched onto the beautiful hardwood deck. The board blew me away the first time I saw it, and it still sends a tingle of excitement down my spine every time I glance over at it. At 47” & approx. 20 lbs. this board is the biggest, baddest, and most beautiful skateboard I’ve ever owned or even seen. Michael Salmon did not disappoint. From out of our collaborative efforts emerged the longboard of my dreams.


The Ride

Wind chasing glory! This board is a true kaleidoscopic mix of brilliance, beauty, quality, and power. It captivates not only me the rider, but everyone who bears witness! The "Ryde" is simply awesome; a true soul ride, whose breathtaking beauty and strength powers away even on the most jacked up pavements of NYC. I call my Soul Ryde custom the "Mammoth Board" after my band Mammoth Lamb. Whenever I step onto it, the hard concrete beneath me instantly transforms into a great, grey ocean. As the board glides along, it hugs every wave, bump, dip, and crack. All of the boards I own besides this one have traditional bushing based trucks (Randal, Paris, etc.). Therefore, the Original S8’s installed on this board took a bit of getting used to. However, once I got the hang of it, I was able to fully appreciate the beauty of the board. Fast, smooth, and receptive, this board is a great pleasure to ride, with the power to transform any benign trip into an exhilarating, star-gazing excursion.


The name Soul Ryde conjures thoughts of the apotheosis of Life’s great journey. And whether you are cruising or carving, you know and feel that you are on a SOUL RYDE.
